Alex Palacios

Vice President, Operations

Relentless Ally since 1998

Alex has 32 years of experience and a portfolio including many first-class Washington, D.C. office buildings such as the new National Science Foundation Headquarters, NPR Headquarters, Station Place – Building 3, and 1700 New York Avenue. Alex joined Balfour Beatty in 1998 as a project manager and has expanded his role with increasing responsibility over the years. In 2015, Alex was promoted to vice president of operations for the company’s Mid-Atlantic team, providing executive leadership on projects like the 2100 Penn office building. Consistently a top performer, Alex achieves operational excellence at the highest level. He is a champion for Balfour Beatty’s Latin@ employee affinity group SOMOS, embodies Balfour Beatty Spirit!, and is passionate about supporting the growth of young professionals in the company.

Dan Novack

President, Mid-Atlantic

Relentless Ally since 2000

Dan Novack is a Balfour Beatty lifer who started his career with the company more than 20 years ago. As president of Buildings operations in the Mid-Atlantic, he provides strategic oversight for construction operations in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania, and works with teams to sustain market growth in the healthcare, federal and education sectors.

Dan is known for his well-rounded leadership experience that includes purchasing, preconstruction, small business development, community and client relations, and operations expertise. He is also a passionate advocate of Balfour Beatty’s people-first culture embedment which embraces the essence of our teams’ Relentless Ally commitment to delivering project excellence and enhancing communities.

Novack is a graduate of Alfred State College in New York where he earned a bachelor’s degree in construction management and furthered his learning with an Master's of Business Administration from George Mason University in 2010. He is actively involved in many industry organizations and recently served on the Board of Directors for ABC Metro Washington for five years.

Rebecca Nordby

Vice President, Operations

Rebecca has been with Balfour Beatty for her entire 25-year career and has established herself as a key leader in the success of multiple large and complex local projects. Most notably, she is currently overseeing the success of the District Wharf Phase 2 garage and office buildings, led the Capitol Crossing mega-project that created three new city blocks built above an interstate highway in the District, and previously managed the first phase of the high profile U.S. Capitol Visitor Center. Rebecca has a reputation for technical excellence, client service, and an ability to manage highly complex projects.

Art Malacarne

Art brings more than 24 years of construction experience to his role as vice president of operations and is currently overseeing the success of the District Wharf Phase 2 garage and office buildings. His career has focused on operational excellence in a variety of vertical markets including corporate office, education, residential, and mixed-use. Art is a team player; his collaborative mindset was recognized with an NGA Campus East “Star Partner Award” for his extraordinary efforts in support of the project’s “One Team” partnership mission and goals.

Bevan Mace, Ph.D.

Vice President

Bevan has spent his entire 23-year career with Balfour Beatty and currently serves as vice president in the Mid-Atlantic for public and alternative delivery projects in addition to providing leadership to our marketing, construction technology and training teams. Bevan has served in various operations roles for large and unique construction projects including the NIH Mark O. Hatfield Clinical Research Center, Air Force Memorial, Utah Data Center and East Campus Building #4. Bevan also spent seven years in a national operations role cultivating operational excellence, lean thinking and best practices with teams across the country. Bevan is a regular industry speaker and a member of the board of directors for the Lean Construction Institute; he was honored to receive its Chairman’s Award in 2017.

George Kreis

In his role as vice president of business development, George leverages an expansive network and almost four decades of Washington D.C.-area experience and knowledge. He also oversees the success of the Mid-Atlantic’s special projects group, focusing on the unique characteristics of projects ranging from $100,000 to $20M, as well as some of the team's large key opportunities. He is passionate about creating and strengthening relationships with clients and design professionals, staying engaged throughout a project’s life cycle, and ensuring client satisfaction. Prior to joining Balfour Beatty, George served in senior management positions at other prominent construction firms.

Sean has 17 years of construction industry experience with Balfour Beatty where he has contributed to some of the Mid-Atlantic team’s premier projects. He rose through the ranks on projects including 220 Twentieth Street, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, The Bartlett, and The Foundry to his current role as vice president of operations, overseeing the success of multiple large Mid-Atlantic projects including the 982,000-square-foot mixed-use Carlyle Crossing. Sean has demonstrated an innate ability to lead, solve problems quickly and build solid relationships with clients. He was the recipient of Balfour Beatty’s 2016 Mid-Atlantic Relentless Ally Award in recognition of his dedication to client service and operational excellence.
