A Partnership Created by Lasting Impact

Since 2018, Balfour Beatty has partnered with Fika (formerly known as Bridges to Prosperity) to help connect communities and expand access to opportunity around the world. Through hands-on volunteer trips, our teams work side by side with local partners to design and build safe, reliable pedestrian bridges that transform daily life by connecting rural villages to healthcare, education and other essential resources.

Fika works to ensure safe, reliable rural transport access, helping communities stay connected year-round. Learn more about Fika’s global impact here.

More Details About our Most Recent Build

2025 Rutenga Bridge

For the 3,313 residents of Rutenga, Bunyangezi, Mwendo, Nyarubuye, and Mugunga, the Gaseka River used to represent a daily struggle—forcing families to make life-threatening choices just to reach basic resources, medical care, or educational opportunities. That reality has changed dramatically with the completion of the Rutenga Suspended Bridge in 2025. Thanks to this essential project, community members now have safe, reliable year-round access to healthcare, schools, and other critical resources.
