by Balfour Beatty

July 27, 2022

Whether they’re flying drones, developing project bids, designing proposals, or paving major interstates, Balfour Beatty interns are gaining exciting, hands-on internship experiences that are preparing them for future careers in construction and bringing their classroom knowledge to life.

Through Balfour Beatty’s internship program, a total of 120 interns across our U.S. Buildings and Civils businesses are working in a wide range of industry specialties, including preconstruction, estimating, operations, virtual design and construction (VDC), marketing, and more. From California to Florida, Balfour Beatty interns are contributing to a vast range of notable projects such as the LAX Automated People MoverCaltrain Design-Build ElectrificationSage at National LandingHarkers Island Bridge Replacement, and the Broward County Convention Center and Hotel Expansion.

But an internship with Balfour Beatty isn’t all work and no play. This year, through our annual, company-wide summer internship competition, we asked seven hopeful finalists to share personal videos that answer the question, “What excites you about your Balfour Beatty internship?”

Meet this year’s winners and learn what they had to say about their internships with Balfour Beatty:

Christian Abugu
University of Florida
Buildings: Fort Lauderdale, Florida
As a construction management major interning with our estimating team in Florida, Christian is inspired daily by Balfour Beatty's legacy of excellence and contributions across the nation. But what has really driven him throughout his internship is the opportunity to apply his classroom lessons and estimating internship experience with Balfour Beatty to real-world construction projects, contributing to the communities we build and serve.

Shubham Bankhele
North Carolina State University
Civils: Havelock, North Carolina
While interning with Balfour Beatty on the Havelock Bypass project in Havelock, North Carolina, Shubham is taking home more than just the fun times and good-humored team culture. Shubham is maximizing the opportunity to learn from our industry-leading infrastructure experts and enjoy hands-on job site activities, including climbing girders and driving dump trucks.

Reagan Brown
Washington State University
Buildings: Seattle, Washington
From the Space Needle originally built in 1961 to the Redmond project on which she's currently interning, Reagan has witnessed the history and communities Balfour Beatty has helped build across Seattle. As a construction management student and intern with Howard S. Wright, a Balfour Beatty company, Reagan is working with our talented structures team in the Northwest. And while the impressive projects and quality of work our teams deliver provide a ‘wow’ factor to her internship experience, she believes our culture and people have added the most value and enrichment during her time with the team.

As an industry leader, Balfour Beatty understands the importance of investing in a meaningful and robust internship program. By providing interns with valuable and enriching experiences as well as opportunities to engage across the business, our team is not only preparing the future leaders of the construction industry but also the future leaders of the communities where we build and serve.
