SAVANNAH, GA – Balfour Beatty is awarded to deliver the new Pulaski K-8 School on behalf of Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS).

The project entails converting an existing K-5 school into the new Pulaski K-8 School by constructing an additional 41,570 square feet for classrooms, a new gymnasium and administrative offices. Converted spaces will include the original gymnasium, a media center and a student clinic. Balfour Beatty will also deliver new athletic fields for students’ extracurricular activities.

With the project site located adjacent to the Hunter Army Airfield, the project team will focus on ensuring successful coordination with the U.S. military base, SCCPSS and industry partners by leveraging lean construction methods such as Balfour Beatty’s proprietary SmartStart® system. The process will be utilized to conduct collaborative planning between the school system and local trade partners, execute proactive project design to improve the project’s safety and constructability, and deploy information support systems that support the complexity and lifecycle of the project.

NuJak Companies, Inc., a Lakeland, Florida firm, will assist the project by providing project and support staff and leading the effort to partner with local MWBE firms. Balfour Beatty will support NuJak throughout the project through mentorship and executive training opportunities while NuJak establishes a lasting presence in the Savannah community and relationship with SCCPSS.

“We’re thrilled to expand Balfour Beatty’s industry-leading education construction footprint into the Savannah market through the delivery of Savannah-Chatham County Public School System’s new Pulaski K-8 School,” said George Uschold, Balfour Beatty vice president in Savannah. “We look forward to working with NuJak and MWBE partners in the local contractor community to provide a premier facility for the next generation of students.”

The project team will work with architecture firm Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood, a repeat-partner of Balfour Beatty’s on multiple successful projects in Atlanta, Georgia. Construction on the new Pulaski K-8 School is scheduled for May 2023 with an anticipated completion ahead of the 2024 new school year.
