DALLAS, TX – Ed Littleton, senior vice president of risk management for Balfour Beatty’s U.S. operations, has been honored by the International Risk Management Institute (IRMI) with its Words of Wisdom Award at the IRMI Construction Risk Conference.

According to IRMI, the award is presented annually to a speaker who has made an outstanding contribution to the educational programming for the Construction Risk Conference (CRC), which is the professional organization’s annual conference for construction risk management and insurance professionals. The award recognizes Littleton’s exceptional presentation skills, and his sharing of practical tips and strategies that conference attendees can put into practice.

“The Words of Wisdom Award is all about giving back to the industry by unselfishly sharing knowledge for the benefit of all, and Ed has done that time and time again,” said IRMI President and CEO Jack P. Gibson, CPCU, CRIS, ARM. “He has presented at five IRMI Construction Risk Conferences, and each time the audience has raved about the practical information he delivered while scoring him in the top 5 percent of speakers.”

"There's no copyright on safety, we need to share," Littleton shared upon receiving the Words of Wisdom award at the 2019 IRMI CRC. "This conference is not about promoting a company or a product, it's about making us all better at what we do."

Littleton joined Balfour Beatty in 2006 as the vice president of risk management and serves as the company’s chief risk officer for its U.S. operations. He is responsible for the company’s overall design, management and execution of risk management programs and initiatives. Littleton began his career in 1985 with Arthur Andersen, where he worked closely with construction industry clients. From there, he joined one of those clients as the vice president of finance. In 1996, Littleton moved from finance to risk management when he joined Willis, serving in various capacities, including the national subguard practice leader, the chief financial officer of its national construction practice, and as chief operating officer in the Carolinas.

Littleton holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting from the University of South Carolina, where he serves on the recently formed Risk and Uncertainty Management Advisory Board. He is involved in numerous industry leadership groups, and is past chairman of the AGC Surety Bonding and Risk Management forum. Littleton is also active in the grant process and annual campaign cabinet for United Way of Dallas.
