SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – Balfour Beatty is named Engineering-News Record (ENR) California’s 2024 No. 1 Top Education Builder for the second consecutive year with a revenue of $437 million in the K-12 and higher education market sector in 2023.

ENR California’s 2024 Top Contractors by market sector is a part of the publication’s Top Contractors list, which is published annually and ranks general contractors both publicly and privately held, based on construction contracting-specific revenue.

"Being named No. 1 education builder in California is a true testament to our team's unwavering commitment to safety, innovation, and collaboration in creating exceptional educational facilities across the state," said Brian Cahill, Balfour Beatty president in California. "We take immense pride in our team's dedication to operational excellence and their ability to leverage our leading educational building expertise. This has enabled us to deliver outstanding learning environments for students and faculty, such as the Mira Costa College Health and Wellness Hub and Sierra College's state-of-the-art Instructional Building. These projects, among others, showcase our ongoing mission to construct premier educational campuses that serve and enrich our communities."

The No. 1 ranking by revenue comes shortly after Balfour Beatty’s award for its delivery of MiraCosta College’s Health and Wellness Hub in Oceanside which was named Best Higher Education/Research Project by ENR California’s Best Projects of 2024 program. The progressive-design build project, designed by HMC Architects, houses the college’s allied health, kinesiology, health and nutrition and athletics programs.

Another notable education project Balfour Beatty has delivered in 2023 includes the award-winning Instructional Building for Sierra College in Rocklin. The 85,000-square-foot facility features a three-story classroom building with teaching laboratories, art studios, student collaborative spaces and office spaces.

On track for further success in 2024, the company completed the state-of-the-art Sonia Sotomayor Elementary School in Chula Vista on behalf of Chula Vista School Elementary School District, the state’s largest transitional kindergarten through grade six school district, and the recently delivered rebuild of Del Mar Heights Elementary for Del Mar Union School District in San Diego.
