One Second, One Choice: Safety Week 2023

by Balfour Beatty

May 1, 2023

Every year, Balfour Beatty joins our industry partners and peers in recognizing National Construction Safety Week and promoting the industry’s dedication to eliminating worker risk and injury. From May 1-5, Balfour Beatty is observing Safety Week with our long-held theme “One Second, One Choice,” which focuses on the critical impact of every decision to protect our people, partners and communities.

Balfour Beatty is a long-time supporter and member of Safety Week – a natural fit with our never-ending commitment to Zero Harm. When it comes to safety on an active construction site, every choice matters and every second counts.

We believe those crucial decisions happen constantly both on and off the jobsite. Every individual has a vital role to play in achieving Zero Harm, and while that places great responsibility on every teammate, it also empowers and supports our teammates to make choices that create a safer, healthier work environment for everyone.

“Our people-first, Zero Harm safety values empower us to work together to improve safety for everyone,” says Senior Vice President, National Safety and Sustainability Richard Ryan, in his first Safety Week as Balfour Beatty’s national safety lead. “A single choice in a split second could prevent an injury or save a life, and that’s something we want to recognize this week and beyond.”

During Safety Week, Balfour Beatty teammates across the nation will join a national Conversation Corner featuring Richard and Chief Executive Officer Eric Stenman regarding our safety efforts, the value we place on safety and how each teammate can further that mission.

Balfour Beatty jobsites will also observe Safety Week through safety stand downs, project-specific safety presentations, collaborative discussions and more. Follow us on Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram to check out our teams’ participation in Safety Week and learn how we are fostering a safety-first culture as we build new futures in our communities.
