LOS ANGELES – Balfour Beatty, an industry-leading general contractor in the U.S., is expanding its operations to provide construction services for special projects in the Los Angeles area. The company’s special projects services will encompass a wide variety of market sectors including corporate tenant improvement, aviation, building repositioning, core and shell, entertainment, hospitality, medical and biotechnology. This expansion supports the company’s strategy of continued growth in existing geographies through the people-first management of complex and quick-turn projects in market sectors the company has not previously targeted.

Balfour Beatty’s Los Angeles-based special projects operations are led by Project Executive and area native Alan Wahlstrom. Alan, who previously managed the company’s special projects in the Mid-Atlantic, brings more than 43 years of industry experience with a focus on core and shell and interior buildout work and expert skills in estimating and operational excellence.

Alongside Alan, Balfour Beatty Vice President of Operations Emily Kay will support and oversee the local operations. With more than 29 years of experience in the construction industry, Emily has been recognized as one of the top Outstanding Women in Design and Construction by the Los Angeles Business Journal. She fosters a genuine culture that empowers teams to deliver best-in-class projects and create lasting and trusted relationships.

Focused on creating opportunities within our local industry and community, Balfour Beatty is committed to leveraging partnerships with local, minority, veteran and women-owned businesses and trade contractors that will showcase the vast talents of the Los Angeles construction community.

“I’m thrilled to work with our team to expand our service offerings while also returning to my roots in Los Angeles,” said Alan. “We look forward to serving our community and delivering exciting projects that enhance the ways our clients operate and interact within their spaces.”

Since establishing its Los Angeles special projects operations, Balfour Beatty has been awarded a $2.9 million contract to deliver the City of Beverly Hills’ shell improvements project at 430 North Camden Drive. The project is critical to successful delivery of a future tenant buildout and features core and shell improvements to a 9,500-square-foot tenant space.
