Your Frame of Mind Matters: Safety Week 2022

by Balfour Beatty

April 29, 2022

Every year Balfour Beatty collaborates with more than 70 industry partners and companies in recognizing National Construction Safety Week by promoting the industry’s dedication to eliminating worker risk and injury. From May 2-6, Balfour Beatty will launch its “Your Frame of Mind Matters” 2022 Safety Week campaign as part of its never-ending  Zero Harm commitment.

As a long-time Safety Week member and supporter of the week-long campaign, Balfour Beatty teams and trade partners across the nation will discuss the vital importance of mental health and wellness and the ways in which mental health is connected to physical health.

During Safety Week and beyond, Balfour Beatty is committed to ensuring our teammates and partners work in safe and supportive environments where mental health and wellness are embedded as fundamental pillars of our Zero Harm culture.

Over the last decade, construction workers have consistently experienced some of the highest occupational suicide rates in the nation. Tragically, the events and stressors of recent years have resulted in even higher rates of suicide within the construction industry and beyond. As an industry leader, Balfour Beatty has facilitated critical conversations over the past several years that have helped raise awareness and break stigmas about suicide.

As part of its “Your Frame of Mind Matters” Safety Week campaign, Balfour Beatty will conduct toolbox talks discussing mental health and wellness, ways in which teams can ensure everyone is fit for work, and resources that can help assist those who are experiencing a mental health crisis or emergency.

In our continuous effort to further education around suicide prevention, Balfour Beatty is also holding training for its employees on a mental health intervention program, QPR. QPR, which stands for Question, Persuade and Refer, is a nationally recognized educational program that helps participants learn the warning side of suicide, its common causes, and how to seek help for someone in crisis.

Balfour Beatty’s global and progressive Zero Harm Safety Program is culturally, behaviorally, and operationally focused, providing tools and resources that prioritize safety in operations and create psychologically safe environments where everyone is empowered to speak up and seek support on behalf of health, safety, and wellbeing.

Safety Week provides an opportunity for Balfour Beatty to demonstrate gratitude to its workforce and trade partners for supporting safety year-round and to recognize their commitment to remaining injury-free.
