Recognizing Associated General Contractors (AGC) members for safety excellence since 1926, the National AGC Safety Awards (NASA) Program has been an ongoing effort to offer AGC members an opportunity to evaluate and improve upon their safety records.

Over 1,500 general contractors, specialty, and associate members applied for the award this year. The program enables both contractors and local chapters to be recognized for outstanding safety records. Contractors are recognized for safety performance within the following divisions: Building, Highway, Heavy/Industrial, Municipal/Utilities, and Associate/Specialty. AGC members with an incident rate 25 percent below each division's national average and members who have a zero incident rate qualify for awards.

On August 21, Balfour Beatty’s Southwest Region was recognized as one of several AGC of Texas contractor members to win this award for significant safety achievement in the Highway Division in 2018. Since 1994, the Southwest Region has received this award 21 times and is committed to prioritizing Zero Harm and continuing the successful streak for years to come.

In addition to the National Award, the Region was also presented with an award from the Second Annual Texas Bluebonnet Safety Award Program. This program recognizes the efforts of both public and private highway contractors to reach zero incidents in work zones. The goal of the program is to help companies, organizations and TxDOT Districts take steps to lower their incident rates to zero and to recognize them for their positive efforts. The Southwest Region was recognized as one of seven AGC of Texas contractor members to win this award. Balfour wants to commend the entire Southwest Region Team on these achievements and for instilling a strong safety culture on each of its sites.
