ATLANTA, GA – Balfour Beatty successfully delivers Atlanta Mission’s Restoration House, a day shelter designed to serve and reimagine the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children (ADS). The new Restoration House is funded by generous donations from the community and corporate benefactors, and significant in-kind construction work that now allows the homeless shelter to increase its services for more than 4,000 unhoused women and children in Atlanta.

Located at the Atlanta Mission’s Ethel Street site, the 46,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility and its furnishings are specifically designed for Metro Atlanta women and children in need. The Balfour Beatty team and partners worked closely with the Atlanta Mission to design lighting, furniture, and space layout elements to achieve its overall goal of providing a safe space in the community. At full capacity, The Restoration House will provide 102 new beds along with Atlanta Mission’s life-transforming day services.

As construction manager at-risk, Balfour Beatty managed in-kind construction work which includes support from multiple subcontractors, suppliers, manufacturers, and many other entities who discounted their fees, donated materials, and offered pro bono labor for The Restoration House. The collaboration between Balfour Beatty and its partners also allowed the project to successfully procure a substantial amount of in-kind services and materials to support the delivery of Atlanta Mission’s new shelter.

“Our partnership with Balfour Beatty over the years has been a bigger blessing than we can express,” said Jim Reese, Atlanta Mission president and chief executive officer. “With the addition of the new Restoration House, Atlanta Mission can continue to expand its services for Atlanta-area women and children looking to get back on their feet. We couldn’t devote our mission to ending homelessness in Atlanta without the hard work and generosity of the Balfour Beatty team.”

Balfour Beatty’s involvement with the Atlanta Mission spans more than 10 years. The company volunteers their time by preparing meals and raising money for shelter clients during holidays and supporting their operations and maintenance needs at the organization’s various facilities.

Additionally, Balfour Beatty previously completed construction services and secured in-kind donations for Atlanta Mission’s My Sister’s House shelter. Teammates updated rooms, helped with carpentry and supported the maintenance needs for the 264-bed facility that offers overnight shelter and residential discipleship programs for homeless women and women with children.

“Balfour Beatty is privileged to work with and support Atlanta Mission and their efforts in transforming lives in Atlanta area,” said Michael Macon, senior vice president in Atlanta. “I commend our project team and partners for their selfless efforts in delivering the new Restoration House, a premier shelter facility that will not only provide improved services and additional space for those in need but continue to unite our community in the fight against homelessness.”
