MARYLAND,  – Balfour Beatty has been awarded a firm-fixed-price contract of $57.8 million via Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) to deliver an Air Force Consolidated Communication Center at Joint Base Andrews in Camp Springs, Maryland. Once complete, the state-of-the-art facility will greatly bolster the nation’s defense capabilities in the area and accommodate for future mission growth, facilitate moves from aging facilities, and centrally locate critical communications activities for the National Capital Region.

The construction of the Consolidated Communication Center (CCC) will include the demolition of two facilities to make space for a single-structure facility for the US Air Forces (USAF) 89th, 744th, and 83rd squadrons. The base value of the contract includes options to provide audiovisual services, landscaping, water infiltration testing, air infiltration testing, and furniture, fixtures, and equipment.

The Design-Bid-Build (DBB) project is a firm-fixed-price contract award, a part of obligated fiscal 2017 USAF military construction funds, and was competitively procured through a SAM.gov solicitation with six proposals received. If exercised, additional construction services will increase the cumulative contract to a potential value of approximately $61.7 million.

Balfour Beatty will leverage innovative technologies and lean construction methods to deliver the new Consolidated Comms building including Building Information Modeling, Last Planner System® integrated with the company’s CPM P6 Schedule process, and monthly project reviews powered by Power BI.

The company will also work with its repeat design partners Wiley|Wilson and Burns & McDonnell who have provided architectural and engineering services for Balfour Beatty projects.

“We are honored for the opportunity to provide construction services to deliver the new Communication Center at Joint Base Andrews,” said Matt Dye, senior vice president of Balfour Beatty’s Mid-Atlantic operations. “It is a privilege to be awarded a Department of Defense contract with our design partners to further enhance the critical and vital work of our nation’s defense operations.”
