ATLANTA, GA  – Balfour Beatty has started construction activities as part of The Krog District redevelopment in Atlanta, Georgia. Once complete, the project will provide new and additional life to an already busy Atlanta hotspot to better serve tenants, retailers, and consumers in The Krog District.

The Krog District redevelopment project includes site improvements and enhancements of existing properties as well as adding two mixed-use buildings with retail and office space. The two ground-up core and shell buildings will utilize steel structure construction and panelized wall systems for the building envelopes. One will be constructed adjacent to Krog Street Market, with the second new building positioned at the corner of Lake Avenue NE and Krog Street NE. Both sites are surrounded by heavily populated residential neighborhoods, retail and office space, and one of Atlanta’s prime attractions – the Atlanta BeltLine.

Adjacent to Krog Street Market, an existing office structure will be demolished and replaced with a four-story building and an adjoining five-story, 186-space precast parking deck. Level one will be street-level retail with the remainder of the building designated for office use. The approximately 33,000-square-foot building will be delivered in shell condition with future interior upfits to be completed by tenants.

The 36,000-square-foot, three-story building on Lake Avenue will adjoin the BeltLine and provide new access to Krog Street Market via a hardscaped access point and breezeway. The building will offer retail and office space and be delivered in shell condition with future interior uplifts to be completed by tenants.

The Krog District redevelopment project also includes upgrades to Atlanta Stove Works, an existing building with office and retail space. The upgrades involve the delivery of surrounding landscape and hardscapes, new storefront systems and façade updates, new interaction features with the BeltLine and demolition of a former enclosed restaurant space to create an open-air breezeway. The key feature of the project, the breezeway will provide direct access from the BeltLine to a vibrant mix of retail and office space. Site improvements including lighting, pedestrian path connectivity, signage, and improvements to an existing motor court are also included as part of the project.

“We are honored to partner with repeat client Asana Partners in the delivery of the redevelopment of The Krog District,” said Mike Macon, senior vice president and business unit leader for Balfour Beatty in Georgia. “Our project team is excited for the opportunity to successfully deliver another project on behalf of our client and looks forward to bringing Asana Partners’ vision to life for The Krog District.”

Construction is underway, and the Balfour Beatty team will use the latest technologies and lean construction methods to efficiently deliver the redevelopment project with architect ASD | SKY of Atlanta, GA.
