Balfour Beatty Ranked No. 1 Top Southeast Education Contractor by Engineering News-Record

CHARLOTTE, NC – Engineering News-Record (ENR) has named Balfour Beatty the Southeast’s No. 1 contractor in the education market sector for 2020. The industry publication’s annual Top Contractors list ranks firms based on national, regional, and market sector-specific revenue from the previous year. The ENR Southeast ranking includes data submitted by general contractors operating in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and Puerto Rico.
Education is a strategic market for Balfour Beatty across the country, including the company’s Southeast operations that were awarded $278.85 million in K-12 and higher education revenue in 2019. With K-12 education expertise based throughout the Southeast region in Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, Wilmington, Atlanta, and Decatur. Balfour Beatty teams have extensive experience with a broad range of education projects, including K-12, higher education, new construction, renovation, and additions, and leveraging the latest technologies and lean construction methods to safely deliver facilities for these communities.
Balfour Beatty’s K-12 education work in the Southeast includes its long-term relationship with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools who have partnered together to successfully deliver six school projects across the district, including the new Rea Farms STEAM K-8 School set for completion in 2020. The company also provided construction management services for City Schools of Decatur’s New Talley Street Elementary School, the district’s first new elementary school built since the early 1970s.
The company also has a long-standing relationship with the University of North Carolina’s (UNC) Charlotte and Wilmington campuses where Balfour Beatty teams utilize drone technology to perform real-time quality control to successfully deliver higher education buildings. These facilities include UNC Charlotte’s 130,000-square-foot Science Building, which will foster interdisciplinary science education and research and provide a collaborative environment for students and faculty, and UNC Wilmington’s Parking Deck, Allied Health, and Dobo Hall buildings.
