Experience LAX's Automated People Mover in Virtual Reality

Balfour Beatty and the LINXS project team deliver an efficient method for the client and public stakeholders to experience the future of the LAX Automated People Mover in Virtual Reality (VR).

While operations aren't scheduled to begin until 2023, the virtual reality experience allows passengers to view what the stations will look like once construction is completed.

Balfour Beatty teammates Rudy Armendariz, BIM manager, and Joao Carneiro, technology specialist, led these efforts by developing three-dimensional models of the stations, using project renderings, and building information modeling software.

"This is a massive project so it's impossible to see everything at ground level," says Joao. "We wanted to provide a different experience that isn't from a fixed point of view and gives passengers a sense of what to expect."

The interactive models display views of and from within the systems’ three Central Terminal Area (CTA) stations and two Intermodal Transportation Facility (ITF) stations. They can be viewed on a smartphone or a computer browser.

To access the VR models using your smartphone, scan the QR codes in the image below. If you have a VR headset, click on the glasses in the bottom right corner of the model for an enhanced experience.
