Balfour Beatty Completes Construction of Denver Regional Transportation District’s Southeast Rail Line Extension
May 20, 2019
DENVER, CO – Balfour Beatty has completed construction and opened the 2.3-mile extension of the Denver Regional Transportation District’s (RTD) E, F, and R light rail lines. Known as the Southeast Rail Extension during construction, the project adds three new stations: Sky Ridge Station, Lone Tree City Center Station, and Ridgegate Parkway Station.
Connecting commuters in Denver’s southeast metro area to important destinations throughout the line, the project extends the E, F, and R lines from Lincoln Station farther southeast, adjacent to Interstate 25 and into the Denver suburb of Lone Tree, Colo. The project also adds 1,300 parking spaces for commuters in a park-and-ride lot at the Ridgegate Parkway Station.
"The grand opening of the extended E, F, and R lines is a great milestone for RTD, Balfour Beatty, and everyone involved in the delivery of the Southeast Rail Extension project," said Roger Wilson, vice president of Balfour Beatty’s U.S. rail division. “The Denver Metro region is experiencing tremendous growth and we’re honored to be RTD’s partner in expanding its rail service to meet the region’s access and mobility needs for the future.”
Balfour Beatty joined RTD for a grand opening ceremony on May 17, which included remarks from RTD General Manager and CEO Dave Genova, Lone Tree Mayor Jackie Millet, and other elected officials and community leaders who were instrumental in making the rail extension a reality. Revenue service at the three new stations began on May 19.
The Southeast Rail Extension project is part of the RTD’s voter-approved FasTracks program to build 122 miles of commuter rail and light rail, 18 miles of bus rapid transit service, add 21,000 new parking spaces, redevelop Denver Union Station and redirect bus service to better connect the eight-county district.
