LOS ANGELES, CA – The Greater Los Angeles African American Chamber of Commerce (GLAAACC) has honored Balfour Beatty with its Public Works Contractor of the Year Award as part of its annual Economic Leadership Awards program. The GLAAACC awards program recognizes individuals, small businesses, and corporations who have contributed to the economic growth and development of the African American small business community.

Joe Reed, vice president of alternative delivery for Balfour Beatty, accepted the award on behalf of the company and expressed gratitude to GLAAACC for recognizing Balfour Beatty’s work both in the field and the community. “It’s an honor to have our efforts recognized in Los Angeles by an organization as extraordinary and active as GLAAACC,” Reed said. “Balfour Beatty supports all of GLAAACC’s events year-round, including business development seminars for members, charity drives, and business mixers. GLAAACC has been instrumental in helping us exceed our small business inclusion goals by providing us with great opportunities to develop working relationships with the Los Angeles small business community.”

As a part of its commitment to making long-term investments in the communities it serves, Balfour Beatty and its LAX Integrated Express Solutions (LINXS) joint venture partners awarded $120,000 to GLAAACC’s Education Fund and Foundation Scholarship program. For nearly two decades, GLAAACC Education Fund and Foundation (Ed Fund) has awarded scholarships to deserving college-bound high school seniors from Crenshaw, Dorsey, Washington Preparatory, and Jordan High Schools.

GLAAACC has been active in its advocacy and support of African American business enterprise by providing a variety of programs and services to assist in their growth and development. GLAAACC works to combine the resources of the African American business community and other business organizations in order to secure solutions for expanding business opportunities. In addition to lobbying to city, state and federal lawmakers on issues affecting business enterprises, GLAAACC assists in providing information, resources and referrals to the community at large.
