Safety Week 2026: Starting Safe, Staying Safe
Balfour Beatty is proud to sponsor Construction Safety Week (May 4 – 8), an industry‑wide effort to reinforce a shared commitment to eliminating worker risk and injury. Construction Safety Week brings together peer companies, trade partners and crews across North America to pause, reflect and re-commit to what matters most: protecting people.
Balfour Beatty’s focus this week and beyond is work readiness, asking teammates and trade parters a simple but foundational question: “Are you safe to start?”
“Before the first tool is picked up or the first task begins, being ‘Safe to Start’ means taking the time to assess conditions, confirm plans and ensure every individual is mentally and physically prepared for the work ahead,” says Eric Yates, US Civils vice president environmental, health and safety.
That commitment to preparation and awareness is shared across Balfour Beatty’s safety and operations leadership, reinforcing that “Safe to Start” is both a mindset and a daily practice carried throughout the workday.
“‘Safe to Start’ is about setting clear expectations, recognizing potential risks early and empowering everyone on the jobsite to speak up if something does not feel right,” says Senior Vice President, National Safety and Sustainability Richard Ryan.
Throughout Construction Safety Week, Balfour Beatty teammates across the country are engaging in meaningful conversations, jobsite activities and safety moments that reinforce this commitment to being “Safe to Start” each day.
Balfour Beatty is honored to stand alongside our industry peers during Construction Safety Week and to continue fostering an industry-wide culture where every person starts safe, stays safe and returns home safely every day.
