Central Texas teammates recently joined with the Texas chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for a Green Apple Day of Service. The Austin team joined with volunteers from Perkins & Will Architects, Austin ISD, Sherwin Williams and other organizations to serve the Austin community.

Though some employees have participated in the event since it began in 2022, this was the first year that Balfour Beatty participated as a sponsor. This volunteer event looks to beautify and improve local Austin schools. 

“Research shows that time outdoors benefits students’ well-being and mental health in a variety of ways,” explains Belinda Santolucito, business development director. “However, many Title 1 schools lack the equipment needed to facilitate outdoor learning, dining and play. This Green Apple Day of Service effort helps us make a difference in these schools.”

Volunteers at the event sanded, primed and painted picnic tables, which will be delivered to four Austin ISD Title 1 schools. In addition to providing several volunteers, Balfour Beatty also brought sanders, paint sprayers and various other tools needed to paint the tables.

“It was an incredible team effort,” says Belinda. “We were proud to contribute to this meaningful community initiative.”
