DALLAS – Balfour Beatty celebrates its 18th consecutive recognition from the National Railroad Construction Maintenance Association’s (NRC) Safe Contractor of the Year award program and 10th time the company’s US Rail team, as part of its Civils operations, receives the award at the platinum level. The 2023 awards program was celebrated at NRC’s 2024 conference in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Jan. 4 which recognized the winning contractors for their safety performance and exemplary efforts to promote and safety in the rail contracting industry.
NRC’s Safe Railroad Contractor of the Year program evaluates contractors based on criteria including safety practices, workers compensation, training and OSHA statistics. Platinum indicates a perfect score of 100 out of 100 possible points in the rigorous evaluation process and according to the NRC, the safety award-winning companies and their employees represent the very best of the NRC and the entire railroad construction and maintenance industry.
“The NRC extends hearty congratulations to the contractors recognized with platinum, gold, and silver awards. This is a significant achievement that reflects extraordinary training, planning and execution by these contractors and their employees…” says Michael McGonagle, the NRC’s vice president of operations in their recent announcement.
In 2023, nearly 800 Balfour Beatty teammates and craft Rail employees worked just under one million hours with zero lost time injuries. Additionally, this was achieved within approximately 700 miles of track work across three states.
“Receiving the platinum level of this award confirms our company’s commitment to our Zero Harm safety culture,” says Robert Hume, environmental, health and safety manager US Civils and US Rail in the West. “Our employees do an outstanding job each day ensuring not only that our work is performed at the highest level of safety, but also done in a way that allows everyone on the job to go home the same way they came into work. I’m extremely proud of our team for receiving NRC's Safe Contractor of the Year award as it showcases Balfour Beatty’s dedication to one another and those who are in contact with our work.”
