Balfour Beatty and Sharefest’s 7th Annual Golf Outing Raises over $170K to Support Sharefest Workday—a Day When Hundreds of Volunteers Complete School Improvement Projects Throughout Los Angeles County

It’s an annual tradition for Balfour Beatty and Sharefest to come together to co-host an annual Golf Outing and use the money raised to complete school beautification projects in support of Sharefest’s Annual Workday — an event that mobilizes thousands of volunteers throughout Los Angeles County to complete tangible projects that change the quality of life for residents. This year, the Golf Outing was held on April 12 at the Skylinks Golf Course in Long Beach, Calif. and raised a record-setting $171,550.

Sharefest’s 2019 Workday was held on Saturday, May 4 allowing volunteers to “Use the Force for Good."  More than 2,500 Balfour Beatty employees, contractors, vendors, site staff, students, family and community members joined together to complete over 35 beautification projects located throughout Los Angeles County. All of this wonderful work was provided at no cost to the schools. Balfour Beatty led the enhancement projects at Culver City High School (Culver City USD), Lincoln Elementary School (Redondo Beach USD), Arlington Elementary School (Torrance USD), and Mira Costa High School (Manhattan Beach USD). Enhancements included landscaping, painting, mural artwork, cleaning, building custom picnic tables, re-slurrying and re-striping basketball courts.

This is the 10th year the company has supported the Sharefest Workday, and the seventh year that additional financial support was provided through Balfour Beatty/Sharefest’s annual Golf Outing. The funds raised from the Golf Outing also benefit Sharefest’s Youth Development Academy, a summer program offering academic and extracurricular activities to underserved middle and high school students, in addition to funding scholarships for students interested in pursuing higher education in the construction industry. The scholarships will be awarded to select students who attend schools located in each of the four school districts Balfour Beatty is supporting during this year’s Workday.

“Sharefest’s Community Workday gives us an opportunity to use our skills to create lasting change in the communities where we work and live. We are proud to join with them year after year to make our neighborhoods and schools a better place” said John Bernardy, Senior Vice President of Balfour Beatty in Newport Beach.
