Howard S. Wright moves to new office location in Seattle’s Uptown neighborhood
November 03, 2014
SEATTLE
- Howard S. Wright, a Balfour Beatty company, moved into their new office headquarters located in the Queen Anne Station building at 415 1st Avenue North, in Seattle’s Uptown neighborhood.
“This is the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our people,” said Dan Peyovich, division president. “If I choose only one word to describe our new home it is connection. Our space promotes connection to the environment, community, wellness, our history, and our vision for the future. It embodies our culture where our people are both challenged and supported.”
The 129-year-old company is engrained in the fabric of the Pacific Northwest having built much of Seattle’s skyline including the Space Needle, and continues to foster the future with new partnerships such as working with Cornish College of the Arts to bring a new high-rise student housing complex to downtown.
Located in the heart of Uptown, the new office location now sits in the shadow of the Space Needle, featuring a bird’s eye view of this icon along with a panoramic view of Seattle and Elliott Bay from its rooftop deck. Every person has sweeping distant views while seated at their desk and natural light fills every corner of the space.
“Our goal from the start was to find and create a space that inspires collaboration, thought leadership, and innovation by incorporating the things that are most important to our employees including family, technology, community, and the outdoors,” said Peyovich. “Our people love to sail, climb, and ride so they became the foundation of our program, as reflected in our conference room names. We enjoy eating healthy and can prepare a fresh meal on the gas range or rooftop BBQ, or make a smoothie in the Vitamix. Meetings can be taken outside as walking meetings with suggested preset routes depending on the duration. With the Jobsite Window, we can see near real-time video of ongoing work on our projects. Our home reflects all the pieces of our lives that make us who we are.”
Designed by Gensler, the 20,000-square-foot office features 87 works stations with room to expand, and a large multi-functional “core” that accommodates large gatherings for employees, as well as the community at large. Additional amenities and features include:
All work stations have outdoor views and access to natural daylight
Integrated technology throughout the office from touchscreen access to Digital Docs, Jobsite Window for direct access to ongoing work, to advanced wireless interface in all of the conference rooms
Roof-top deck offers panoramic views
“Focus Rooms” designed for private conversations – one Focus Room is equipped with a Treadmill Work Station
Fully equipped kitchen with range-top oven
Conference table commissioned from a local artist that rises to standing heights
Walk Score is 92 out of 100, which indicates building is located in a highly walkable area
Multi-function Wellness room for a quick workout, surround sound movie, game of ping pong, or Xbox
Areas set aside to accommodate children during off hours equipped with Xbox stations
“Together with Gensler, we took a vision and turned it into a reality. I couldn’t be more excited about the energy in our employees and the endless potential for new ideas and solutions to continue to unfold. Our new home is one more catalyst for our people to use their talents and experience to bring world class solutions to each and every project and client we serve,” said Peyovich.
