Balfour Beatty Selected to Build First Phase of Mixed-use Portion of The Grove at Shoal Creek in Austin, Texas
November 01, 2018
AUSTIN, Texas –
The owners of The Grove at Shoal Creek and their development partner
Trammell Crow Company
have selected Balfour Beatty to build the first phase of The Grove’s mixed-use portion of the project. The 402,553-square-foot development situated on 4.14 acres will include a Class A commercial office building, a separate mixed-use Class A office building and retail space, and a 538-car parking garage.
“The owners of The Grove and Trammell Crow Company are committed to developing projects that significantly enhance their communities and we’re honored to be their construction partner on this project,” said Ed Prendergast, business unit leader for Balfour Beatty in Austin. “We have a valued history of working together and greatly appreciate the trust the owners and Trammell Crow have placed in our team to deliver this unique project that will bring momentum to Austin’s next significant destination.”
The first phase of the The Grove’s mixed-use project, designed by Gensler, adds to Balfour Beatty’s portfolio of innovative, sustainable and modernized commercial office spaces. By targeting Austin Energy Green Building certifications for all 206,676 square feet of the commercial office and retail areas, the project will result in buildings that are energy, water and materials-efficient.
The new development is located within walking distance of a new 16-acre signature community park, in addition to pocket parks, dedicated bike lanes, ponds and water features. An outdoor event plaza will include pedestrian-friendly sidewalks and centuries-old heritage oak trees. The Grove’s approach to sustainable development is designed to enrich the community’s environmental, economic and human well-being.
Balfour Beatty will leverage the latest technologies and lean construction methods to deliver the project, including building information modeling (BIM) software, digital documents, drone technologies to document progress on site, and BIM360 Field for quality assurance. At its peak, the project will employ a team of 170.
The project kicks-off construction in November with this first phase of The Grove scheduled for completion in early 2020.
