Balfour Beatty Honored with Pro Patria Award for Exemplary Support of National Guard and Reserve Employees

    March 22, 2018

DALLAS – The Texas Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an official office of the U.S. Department of Defense, has recognized Balfour Beatty with its prestigious Pro Patria Award in the Large Business category. Pro Patria, a Latin term meaning “for one's country,” is the highest level award bestowed by ESGR state committees in honor of the exemplary support given to a company’s National Guardsmen and Reservists through the celebration of service, community outreach, personnel policies that make it easier for employees to serve in the military, and recruitment of active and veteran personnel.

"Receiving the Texas Pro Patria award truly reflects Balfour Beatty’s commitment to honoring the valor and sacrifice of our men and women in service. I am proud to work for a company that supports our nation's heroes. Heroes that bring integrity, global perspective and proven leadership to the civilian workforce," shared Keith McCoy, senior vice president of operations for Balfour Beatty in Texas.

“Balfour Beatty has been, by far, the most supportive employer in my 22-year Naval career. I am always encouraged by our leadership and peers to serve my drills and active duty commitments throughout the year. There is always someone to step in and take over my responsibilities while I’m away, and we stay in touch throughout my service, so there is an easy handoff upon my return. When I received my Naval promotion to senior chief petty officer, my entire team recognized me with a terrific party in celebration of my accomplishment. National Guard, active military, and veterans at our company are continually recognized throughout the year for their service to our country. I feel Balfour Beatty is a true advocate for employees who are veterans, as well as for those still serving in the National Guard and Armed Forces,” shared Gabe Bird, Senior Chief Petty Officer, United States Navy and general superintendent for Balfour Beatty in Texas.

Balfour Beatty was previously honored with the Texas ESGR’s Patriot Award in 2016 and the agency’s Above and Beyond award in 2017. The competition judges received a total of 600 entries from which only six Texas employers earned top nods. This year’s Pro Patria Award honorees will be recognized at an awards dinner on April 13 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Austin, Texas.
