The annual Excellence in Construction Awards program honors general and specialty contractors for top commercial construction projects that have been completed in the past year. The winning projects were judged by a panel of veteran industry professionals on complexity, teamwork, innovation and cost, among other factors.
“With the amount of building going on in Florida, this year’s competition was tight,” said Peter Dyga, president and CEO of ABC’s Florida East Coast Chapter. “It’s great to see construction professionals honored for their work, and commitment to quality and safety and working to help build Florida.”
“Our team is honored for the opportunity to deliver such an iconic monument to the community, especially with it being our first project for ZOM Living,” said Mike Carlin, senior vice president, Balfour Beatty. “Solitair Brickell screams excellence all the way through and its signature design features set it apart. Ultimately, it was the shared commitment of our integrated team of ZOM, Stantec and our trade partners that resulted in the project’s great success and award-winning recognition.”
Designed by Stantec, the 50-story, 438-unit Solitair Brickell was crafted in the basket-weave pattern of a Medjool date palm tree. This pattern is reflected in everything from the way the balconies are angled to the floor tiles, and the wallpaper to the wood finishes in the lobby. The project was built on a 0.6 acre, zero-lot-line site with neighboring properties just inches away.
The project features a resort-style pool on its 50th-floor deck, in addition to amenities including a billiard room, lounge, business center, and a fitness complex with an outdoor yoga space. The newly completed tower features 6,200 square feet of ground-floor retail space and garage parking for 463 vehicles.
