Balfour Beatty Construction Wins National 2014 NAHB/Builders Mutual Insurance Company Safety Award for Excellence
December 01, 2014
DALLAS
- Balfour Beatty Construction’s Multifamily Housing team in Dallas took top honors in safety as winners of the 2014 NAHB/Builders Mutual Insurance Company Safety Award for Excellence (SAFE). This National Association of Home Builders award acknowledges leadership and commitment to improve construction safety, and to ensure that builders, trade contractors and workers in the multifamily construction industry return home safely to their families and friends each day.
This prestigious national award honoring Balfour Beatty Construction’s Multifamily Housing team stems in part from the emphasis the company places on creating a culture of safety throughout the organization, and working toward the goal of Zero Harm, which strives to make safety personal on every project.
“My goal is to continually challenge all team members to apply, train, inspect, monitor and mentor our cutting edge safety practices in order to lead the industry,” said Jack Brown, vice president of Balfour Beatty Construction’s Multifamily Housing division in the Central Region.
Viewing safety consciously through the lens of Zero Harm puts a spotlight on the behaviors that dictate safe construction practices. “Our method is to engage in open conversations and follow up on our promises to provide assistance or correct potential issues. When speaking with a trade partner, we explain that we are dedicated to the safety of everyone who comes in contact with our projects. We focus on building trust and relationships that encourage what we call, heart-to-head behaviors,” said Brown.
By eliminating risk and changing behaviors in all facets of the business, the Balfour Beatty Construction Multifamily team has demonstrated that continuous improvement in providing safe working conditions for everyone is a winning proposition. “I’m proud of this team and what they have accomplished. The recognition from the NAHB is tremendous validation of their efforts,” shared Brown.
