Balfour Beatty Construction’s Northern California headquarters is moving to a new office location

    November 17, 2014

EMERYVILLE, Calif. - Balfour Beatty Construction’s Northern California Division will be moving its headquarters office to a new location in Oakland’s Uptown District in early 2015. The new home will be located in the Hive building located at 2335 Broadway, and will foster an interactive work environment. Construction has begun, with a late February, 2015 move-in date.

“We selected this new Oakland location for our headquarters not only because it is an exciting area of redevelopment, but also because its central Bay Area location allows us quick access to all of our project sites,” said Gordon Childress, division president. “We are also very focused on employee wellness and work-life balance. This location offers the best amenities, has easy access to public transportation, and is very conducive for employee and client collaboration.”

“To complement the existing building and surroundings, the office was envisioned as a loft-like space with small programmatic volumes for a flexible and open design with minimal visual obstructions.  An undulating ceiling ties together the blocks and accentuates the entry and open collaboration areas,” said Greg Deye, project designer with Gensler, the project’s architect. “It will feature a multi-functional hub adjacent to an exterior terrace that will allow for industry gatherings and employee interaction.”

Formerly Howard S. Wright in Northern California, Balfour Beatty Construction has had a San Francisco Bay Area location for nearly 20 years. Fred Parker, operations director, Special Projects Group, is overseeing the project.
