    March 04, 2016

SAN DIEGO – Balfour Beatty Construction congratulates Kyle Frandsen, sustainability project manager in San Diego for being named one of Engineering News Record (ENR) California’s 2016 Top 20 Under 40 winners.  The publication’s annual regional competition recognizes 20 individuals under the age of 40 who represent the “Best-of-the-Best" in their construction and design careers by giving back to their industry and communities.

Frandsen joined the company’s California Division in 2013 and currently serves as sustainability project manager. In this role, Frandsen is responsible for driving cultural change by ensuring the implementation of the company’s best management practices through education, direction, and example. He also pursues and manages energy-related projects, develops and delivers training courses, and assists with “green building” project pursuits.  In addition, Frandsen oversees a state-funded, performance-based training contract that he successfully secured for the company in 2015. Since the contract’s inception, he has tracked over 10,000 training hours from 275 employees, and served as developer and trainer for several of the courses.

Frandsen’s expertise is utilized nationally as chair of the company’s national sustainability working group in which he implements, monitors and reports on specific initiatives covering social, economic and environmental goals.  Recently, Frandsen was named a winner in Corporate Eco-Forum’s 2014 Sustainability Leadership at the Eco-Social Nexus Challenge, where he embarked on a six-day leadership journey to Mexico City and Chiapas, Mexico. He, along with 12 other leaders from companies around the world, were selected from a highly competitive field of applicants for demonstrating strong leadership skills and a desire to take sustainability to the next level within their communities and organizations.

An avid supporter of the communities where Balfour Beatty builds, Frandsen has led the California Division’s annual Green Apple Day of Service in partnership with the San Diego Green Building Council for the past three years.

Frandsen holds a bachelor’s degree in consumer economics from the University of Georgia, and a master’s degree in construction management with a sustainability concentration from the University of Florida. He is also a LEED AP®, Six Sigma Yellow Belt and certified in Lean Construction by the AGC.

“I’m very proud of Kyle’s well-deserved acknowledgement by ENR California,” said Brian Cahill, president of Balfour Beatty Construction’s California Division. “Kyle’s commitment and proven track record of innovative contributions to our company’s integrated approach to sustainable building is positively impacting projects, people and communities throughout the state. He is a shining example of excellence in the construction industry and is truly deserving of the honor to be recognized among the best in the California.”
