Balfour Beatty awarded Virginia Treatment Center for Children at Virginia Commonwealth University
August 12, 2014
Fairfax, Va.
– Balfour Beatty Construction’s Washington, D.C. Division is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a preconstruction agreement by Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) to provide preconstruction services for the new Virginia Treatment Center for Children project in Richmond, Va. under VCU’s Construction Management-at-Risk procurement system.
The $41 million, 117,000-square-foot, 32-bed facility will serve as a replacement inpatient behavioral health center for children and will be part of the existing Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, Brook Road campus. The facility will accommodate clinical, education, research, and community mission needs for VCU. This marks Balfour Beatty’s first project for VCU.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to be a relentless ally for such a respected institute as Virginia Commonwealth University and the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System,” said David Laib, senior vice president of Balfour Beatty’s Washington, D.C. division. “We hope that this is the beginning of a long relationship, and look forward to providing them a world class behavioral health facility.”
Construction is scheduled to begin in September with completion slated for the end of 2015.
