Women in Construction
March 06, 2017
It’s no secret that the building trades have long been a male-dominated profession. But there’s no denying that women are a vital and increasingly visible part of the construction industry who are making an enduring impact on the built environment. At Balfour Beatty, we know that cultures of inclusion make our business stronger and richer. That’s why we’re actively and proudly celebrating Women in Construction (WIC) Week – March 5-11, 2017 – an annual event that recognizes women’s contributions and aims to encourage others to start careers in this rewarding sector. WIC Week is hosted by the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC).
Across our civils and vertical business, women are an integral part of Balfour Beatty’s workforce. In a series of blog posts, we invite you to read more about the skilled veterans and rising stars who have shattered glass ceilings—both by epitomizing excellence and refusing to accept any barriers to it. These are women who believed they could accomplish their dreams and did. And whether that dream came in the form of running heavy highway equipment, managing a multi-million-dollar headquarters project or earning a general contractor’s license, they were pursued (and accomplished) with a passionate and unyielding commitment to succeed. And above all, an infectious, inspiring love for the work, but more importantly, the people and partners they serve.
