The first national memorial to victims of the September 11 tragedy, the Pentagon Memorial in Washington, DC, will be dedicated on September 11, 2008 - marking the seventh anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

An Expanding Star

Balfour Beatty Construction will provide construction management-at-risk services for the $30 million Dr Pepper StarCenter expansion in Frisco, Texas. The project includes expanding the 3,800 seat arena into a 6,500 seat event center capable of hosting sporting events, concerts, and graduations. A 1,000 car hybrid parking structure will also be developed west of the existing parking structure.
Growing Walter Reed
The joint venture of Balfour Beatty Construction and Clark Construction has been awarded design-build services for the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The $625 million project includes new medical office, emergency room, and patient care construction; new utility and material handling tunnels, as well as circulation corridors; extensive renovations; and a patient parking garage. The center will be designed and constructed to meet LEED certification.
Cutting the Ribbon
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on December 12, 2007 for the military housing project at the White Sands Missile Range in White Sands, New Mexico. The house featured in the ribbon-cutting ceremony is one of 10 different floor plans that will be built in the neighborhood. The new homes feature all the amenities of typical civilian homes and have plenty of needed storage as well as two-car garages. About three times the size of Rhode Island, this active military base is the largest installation in the United States.

After recently completing program management services (through Balfour Concord) for the new 1.4 million square foot Children’s Hospital on the Fitzsimons campus in Denver, Colorado, Balfour Beatty Construction has been selected to provide construction management services for task orders and capital improvements on the same campus, starting in January 2008.
Building Faith
Balfour Beatty Construction has been selected to build the first phase of a four-phase master plan for Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas. The $60 million project includes infrastructure and a 190,000 square foot building consisting of a worship facility with seating for 4,000 and ancillary space for children's church, nursery, bookstore, cafe, and adult classrooms.
Award-Winning Work
Balfour Beatty Construction brought home two awards on September 25, 2007, from the Metro Washington and Virginia Chapters of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC).
The first award is for the Air Force Memorial (Specialty/General Construction Category), located on a three-acre site at the Naval Annex overlooking the Pentagon. The centerpiece of this high-profile memorial consists of three stainless steel, reinforced concrete spires extending vertically.
The second is for 1101 New York Avenue (Commercial Category, $40 million+). This upscale office building, built to qualify for gold LEED certification, is located on New York Avenue between 11th and 12th Streets. It contains 393,000 square feet and 16 stories, including three levels of below-grade parking and one concourse level of office space.

Balfour Beatty Construction, in a joint venture with Barnhill Contracting, was recently awarded the Wake County Justice Center project in Raleigh, North Carolina. This $215 million project consists of a criminal courthouse, public records/county administration, high security parking for 300 vehicles, central energy plant for county-owned downtown facilities, and the connection to the existing courthouse tunnel. The project’s scope also includes the demolition of all structures north of the Public Safety Center. This is our second successful team effort with Barnhill Contracting. Construction is expected to start in 2010 and will be completed in 2013. |
