Balfour Beatty Construction announces retirement of Robert Hambright, names John Woodcock president of Carolinas

March 01, 2010

Robert Van Cleave, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for Balfour Beatty Construction, announced today that Robert Hambright will retire as division chief executive officer for the company‟s operations in the southeast, effective March 31, 2010. John Woodcock, the division‟s CFO, will step up to serve as president of all operations in the Carolinas.

“Bob Hambright joined us nine years ago, and has been a tremendous leader in this company,” said Van Cleave. “His retirement is the epitome of „going out on top‟—his team grew our Charlotte-based southeast business from a start-up operation to a $900+ million/year business in just nine years. He leaves a legacy of strong performance results and a succession of talented leadership ready to take his place.”

Woodcock will become the top executive of the company‟s Carolinas Division, reporting to Al Petrangeli, who serves as chief executive officer of Balfour Beatty Construction‟s Southeast Region.

“John has been a key contributor to the growth of our operations in the southeast over the past six years, and his command of operations, marketing and strategy development, coupled with his strengths in finance, make him the ideal choice to lead our business in the Carolinas,” said Mr. Hambright. “I am confident that John will implement our vision and deliver enhanced service and greater opportunities for our clients and our people throughout the southeast region.”

Woodcock joined the company in 2004 and most recently served as division chief financial officer and senior vice president. Before joining Balfour Beatty, Woodcock worked in the construction industry for a large construction conglomerate where he held positions of vice president of finance and accounting, strategic development director, and manager of project finance.

Hambright joined Balfour Beatty in 2001 to found the company‟s operations in the southeast, and has served in his current role as division chief executive officer since then. During a career spanning 40 years, Hambright has held a variety of positions from project engineer to president of one of the nation‟s largest construction companies prior to joining Balfour Beatty Construction. He will remain actively engaged with the company in a consulting role for leadership development, client relationships, and organizational strategy—the three areas of professional involvement about which he is most passionate.
