The Ft. Myers office recently sponsored a team from BSSW Architects in a unique food drive for the regional Harry Chapin Food Bank. The event, titled “Canstruction,” took place at the Ft. Myers Imaginarium on Saturday, November 1.

“We had a very successful event overall and the BSSW team was voted Jurors’ Favorite Award. There were approximately 10,000 cans donated,” said Zachary Smith of BSSW Architects. “Thanks to Balfour Beatty, we were able to complete our original design using over 1,500 cans. We appreciate your help, not only with the sponsorship, but with getting Banner Supply Company to aid us in delivering the cans.”

Five teams of architects built amazing structures made completely out of cans of food, which were then donated to the Food Bank. The BSSW structure was a giant spider in a web made from over 1,500 cans.

“We have been working with BSSW for over six years now at the Lee County Justice Center Expansion project in Ft. Myers. When Alan Silver, Ft. Myers VP & BUL, learned of the Canstruction event and BSSW’s participation, it was clear that this was a great opportunity to assist a long time team member and our local community. The results were a great outcome for the BSSW team as well as the Harry Chapin Food Bank,” said BBC Project Manager Phillip Reutebach.
